I’m not getting the disdain for “genre” novels. Are they considered inferior to other types of novels by virtue of that label alone?

This is probably one of the biggest forms of culture shock for me when it comes to cars. The idea that everyone doesn’t learn to drive with a manual transmission as the default and then can choose to buy an automatic if they like. I’m not sure any of the driving schools in my city even have automatic cars.
