Upstream Color - very ethereal.

I can't believe that was unironic

"Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo"

I was actually thinking about posting this - this immediately came to mind after Robin's death the other week.

I'll accept that

Not to seem to pedantic but how do you figure that. If what looks like the youngest writer here was 5 in 1994 that means that they were born in 1989… so you would have been in your 5th-6th grade year… I really hope you wouldn't have been giving birth.

Man, that Elliott Smith recording is surprisingly fantastic. The quality while not great is much better than expected and his song choices just blow me away. Man - that would have been the perfect "show" to be at! I have to greatly second Josh's choice.

VIA 313! Shout-out

I am sure there are a few places in Austin that have something similar to this but I know for a fact that you can get a Maker's Mark milkshake at the Alamo Drafthouse here. The Alamo Drafthouse if you don't know is the most kickass movie theater in the world.

Nothing to the effect that it is a major theme like it was in The Corrections. It comes up but only kinda off hand, I hope that makes sense. In some ways I like it better but other ways it suffers a bit more. But worth reading, definitely.

I'm re-reading Freedom by Franzen. Feel about the same as I did the first time, there are parts that really jump out at me but then some parts that fall a bit flat. Overall I enjoyed it though.
Next up, I will probably grab Magicians Land but I might wait until it goes to softcover or hardcover super sale (I just

I agree - the final few chapters left me disappointed. I thought she did a great job of building up the complex, thrilling, and very interesting story and then it kinda collapsed like a flan in a cupboard. Very Austro-Hungarian Empire like.

Yes, but he caught it because it ends the game. This is the concept I was discussing above. The other team scored more often and at a higher rate because they had better chasers and so once they took such a large lead that even catching the snitch couldn't make up the difference. It almost like in the NFL when teams

Yes but that immutable structure was through a means of completely arbitrary (well at times) sometimes nonsensical (often very sensical) evolution. And thats just (I'm assuming because you were using physical language and descriptors) when discussing the natural world. Thats not even getting into how we have set up

I could kind of see that… but I was more going for how basketball is similar in the sense that more often than other sports a single player can greatly influence the outcome. Not that I am trying to argue that Quidditch is a extremely well thought out game but it just isn't as one-sided as people make it seem.

Thank you sir may I please have another

Yup…. But compared to the rest of the internet I'd say that the AV Club comment section actually being similar to real life is a win!

Just give it time…

Almost like the real world.

To be somewhat fair if you look at the books there is a counterbalance to the snitch. Its the exact scenario of the Quidditch world cup in book 4. You have chasers that can put up points faster than the seeker can catch the snitch. The idea of the snitch brings a level of parity to the table because the game can
