I feel like the article is actually referencing a prominent meme that is a self-deprecating joke whether the person using it realizes it or not, and that to take that meme serious to the point where you write an article like this about it is ridiculous.

No. I don't take pride in anything I don't have a hand in. It's what pride is about. Man walking on the moon? I wasn't even alive. I'll celebrate the achievement, but I feel no pride for it. Impeaching Nixon? Wasn't around for that either, but I'd say well done to those who made it possible. Twinkies? Never missed

As far as I can tell, it's easy to avoid #sportsball type remarks while watching a game by staying off of the internet.
