Part of me worries that people into this are doing so ‘ironically’ or because Bob Ross has become such a meme now. It’d be great if his videos really were positively influencing people as he had wanted, though. And super great that Twitch is acknowledging art streaming in this way.

I always loved watching Bob Ross as a kid. My older brother and I would watch Bob Ross and then the Frugal Gourmet. Good times!

Yeah apparently he quit because he didn't like being angry for a living

Plus they don’t incarcerate you in a fucked up system. They treat you like a human. If it weren’t for the weather, I’d want to move there.

But does he own a plane? A man playing a wise man in movie once told me, never feel sorry for a person that owns their own jet!

yep nothing more to add. the majority probably did not start using adblock because of some tiny ad on the side of the page

I totally agree. I never have nor will I ever be on board with Pewdiepie as a content creator but he is asbolutely right about this.

*NEWSFLASH*

He misses some very fundamental things, such as that plenty of the ads do not serve any productive purpose other than YoTube being able to say that they showed the ad to someone. I’m not going to drive to Russia to buy a product there just because YouTube shows me a commercial that I don’t understand to begin with. So

Ads on the internet are a large source of how people get infected by malicious attacks. When you visit a site like Kotaku, ads are not controlled by Gawker, but a 3rd party that Gawker contracts to handle ads. That 3rd party is responsible to make sure that the ads are free of malicious attacks but occasionally some

You know me so well :)

I bet that is the excuse you use to do nothing with your privileged life and bitch about being stuck in a rut.

It’s funny how gamers clamor for games to have real choice and consequences when real life has had that feature for ages, all I get from this is, no one whants choices with consecuences, they just want choices with different rewards. For themselves.

Ten times this. Uncontrolled advertising on the internet is the real reason why people take in ad block etc. I wrote a piece about it, sadly it is danish, but feel free to check it with a translater.

This. Even though a lot of that is gone now, I still don’t like ads on a lot of sites because they just get in the freaking way. I don’t use an ad blocker on my phone like I do on my PC, and god it is a nightmare when ever pop-up ads show up. Even on my 6’ screen the X’s are impossibly small. 1/3 times I’ll end up

To be fair, I keep ads unblocked for Youtube (and some other sites) because I want to support the people making content, and every time I get a 45 second long unskippable ad for San Pellegrino that blares music 5x louder than the video I’m watching I question why I’m doing it.

Meh I get it. If people figured out a way to get my work product without me getting paid, I’d be annoyed. Though $10 a month is absurd.

Not to mention malware.

I would be fine letting ads play and display. My problem? I’m tired of seeing “SUPER SCARY MOVIE AD #2,354!” It’s simple, create an ad system that let’s me choose categories. Make it run through chrome/Firefox etc and allow me to choose my music interests, movie genre interests, video game interests, TV show

The internet fired the first shot, by making us so wary of online ads (throughs pop ups, autoplays, sounds, epilepsy inducing light effects, etc.) that no one even wants to give the new round of ads a chance.
