Both Maddow and Colbert used to educate their audience in a circumspect way. I feel they had struck a balance between the network pressure to be commercial and their “duty” to inform the public about matters of public interest.

As a straight woman, I think a lot of women (and men) don’t know how to behave when saying no. The rejected person usually doesn’t escalate things if they feel they have been treated with respect and dignity.
