@geolemon: Well I'm sorry for that, I didn't realize it had been edited. The author should really have pointed that out, as they often intentionally cross out text for emphasis.

@Rahabib: I want the bigger screen, is the issue at hand, not the OS. I actually really like OS X, in general. I just want a 15" laptop, instead of 13". And I can't afford a 15" MBP.

@ColMusstard: That's all about preference. You prefer 13", I prefer 15". I had a 15" MBP for a couple years before I got this one, and I loved it. And now I have this glossy- and tiny-screened menace that sits in front of me, and I miss the hell out of my 15".

@Clancycoop: Superior build quality is definitely a problem, though Vaios also have excellent build quality (as do, apparently, certain Dells, but I won't buy a Dell).

@geolemon: Apparently you're reading a completely different article than I am, as the article uses the word "rootkit" once, and it was crossed out, and amended to NAND-block. Reading AN article is not research. That's certainly PART of research, but, sorry, it's not the whole pie. A pepperoni does not a pizza make.

@Jeb_Hoge: Yeah, I came from the Droid, and the G1 before it, which both have normal layouts (though the Droid's keyboard sucked ass). I really liked the Ally, but I kept messing up the B,N,M row because they were all shifted one space. And I had that phone just long enough to get used to it, and now I'm back on a

@Clancycoop: No, you misunderstand. I use a Mac. I use a Mac because I loathe Windows. But, I've begun to realize that there are huge tradeoffs to using a Mac.

@Aaron Crabtree: Actually, I just got a new fastest for this phone: 1714. And that's with all of the bloatware still installed, as I haven't bothered to do the persistent root.

@Jeb_Hoge: I came from an Ally to the G2. I liked the Ally, but it just doesn't compare to the G2. And that weird keyboard layout made it a pain to switch back to a normal one…

@DssTrainer: You only say that because you haven't used the phone. It's far faster than any Android phone I've used before. And that's not just subjectively, I benchmark my phone constantly. I've NEVER gotten below a 1550 on Quadrant on it, and I've gotten as high as 1697. The Droid X tends to hang in the 1400's. The

@xaronax: Cyanogen actually (in "the most horrible way possible") got CM 6.1 running on the G2 yesterday. It'll go away once he reboots (just like everything else), but still, it's pretty damned nifty.

@geolemon: It's not a goddamned rootkit. It's the opposite of a rootkit. If it's really that big of a problem for you, you should be reading XDA and the #G2ROOT chatlogs, which constantly tell people that it's not a fucking rootkit. Try some research before spouting crazy shit. The phone will get permanent root. Just

Bad on battery life? I dunno about you, but I haven't been able to get it to die on me yet. And I use my phone a lot. For instance - on Friday night, I took my phone off the charger at about 7:30 or 8 in the morning. I didn't get home until 5:30 AM. The phone was at about 25% battery life. Now, that day was a little

Let's see if they can give me a good reason to not switch to a PC laptop running Ubuntu.

Bastardly Netflix! You and HTC are really pissing me off today. HTC decides to make a damned 5-row keyboard for WP7, and Netflix will have their damned app at WP7 launch. Meanwhile, Android is stuck w/ no Netflix app and my G2 (which is by all other accounts perfect. Well. That, and the lack of permanent root as of

Is that as five-row on the HTC 7 Pro? If it is, I'ma flip. WTF, HTC?! You couldn't make the damned G2 with the 5-row? Honestly, that is my one and only complaint about the G2 (that, and the difficulty with rooting. They're getting closer, though). And I love the keyboard still, but if it were a 5-row instead of 4, it

Dear Gizmodo,

Damn, that's a smart little kid. Hope he holds on to that, and goes on to astrophysics. Maybe he'll be the one to figure out how to get me to Zarmina before I die, since if I ever up going into astrophysics, it'll be as a second doctorate, and won't be until I'm 50ish.

@YellowRex: No prob. I don't even have Twitter, but when I'm interested in news about phones being rooted, I always check Cyanogen's twitter. That and XDA are usually the best places to find updates.

To everyone who's saying, "I'd get the G2, but with (insert inanity about it being locked down/rootkitted), I'm not interested." Here's a couple quotes from a couple guys who matter:
