There is a big difference between a full plane killing everyone and a car killing a family. The engineering doesn’t have to be as stringent.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Within 5 years I could see fully autonomous vehicles, especially if limited to decent weather. Snow/ice and newly re-wet roads, vs  first rain of the season....seems like the biggest issue.
