1) The protagonist of DE may not be exactly like Cooper, but I imagine Cooper would approve of his unconventional policework a lot more than Kim does.

Wow, big same on relating to H.D.B. A bit depressing to be sure, but on the other hand, the connection made it feel really special on those rare moments when I managed to get something right and earn someone’s approval - especially if that someone is Kim.

I don’t see why people are so obsessed with comparing the two games. I’m enjoying both, as they both scratch very different itches. I personally think DE is the better game, but it’s not like its existence or my experience of it somehow makes TOW worse. If anything, this issue shows how imprecise video game taxonomy

What’s the big deal with using corpses?

I agree that DE is an astoundingly strong debut game, but it didn’t come entirely out of nowhere. The lead designer wrote a novel set in Revachol (currently being translated into English, to my delight), and the setting itself has its roots in a homebrew DnD campaign he’s been running for over a decade. So the reason

Very good write-up, even if I disagree with some aspects. In particular, I love RNG when it’s done right, and I think DE does it very, very right - to the point where my failures often resulted in some of my favorite moments in the game.

Dude what are you talking about lmao. The person you’re responding to didn’t say anything about racial supremacy or really anything that you’re rambling on about.

Thankfully, capitalism has never been responsible for poverty, starvation, or genocide.

Damn I was already pumped for a successor to one of my favorite RPG’s of all time. Now that I know the devs of The Council (a woefully underrated game) are behind it I’m even more hype.

Thanks! It’s always seemed like a great community here. I’m glad I finally had something I needed to say badly enough that it overcame my normally crippling anxiety.

Well, it is exceedingly clever, and the writing can be a little indulgent at times - after all, it is a labor of love 15 years in the making. But I certainly don’t get the impression the cleverness is its raison d’être. I’m not far enough along to really speak to how well everything will cohere in the end, but so far

Still can’t believe they got Witcher 3 playable on Switch. That’s some absolute techno wizardry.

Just read the Eurogamer review and it doesn’t jive with my experience of the game at all. Which fears in particular do you have about the game? I’m head over heels in love with it and just wrote a fairly long post about it upthread if you’re interested.

My best game over so far in DE is suffering a fatal heart attack from turning on a light when my hangover was at its worst. It really is funny in a way that few games are.

I just wrote a longish post about DE, I’m absolutely in love with this game. I’m 20 hours in and not even on the fourth in-game day yet. My investigation and exploration are still yielding more questions than answers, and I’m loving it.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Last week, I learned about the existence of a strange little RPG called Disco Elysium, fifteen years in the making, right in this very comment section. After a quick google and a few minutes of research, it immediately became my most anticipated game of the year. So, for the first
