Point #1: Title of this thread is :"What Commonly Used Design Detail Should Die a Very Quick Death?", not "What Car Deserves to Die a Very Quick Death Because it Uses These Elements?".
That argument only holds water if we're criticizing one car for having all of the previously mentioned elements.

Even worse is the $500 or so "shadowline" markup you have to pay on a BMW to get rid of that crap. Audi does the same damn thing, only it's more expensive, I think.
Agreed. This may have ended very differently if she had negotiated over the phone or in person. Instead of the "list of requests", she could bring up a point (in order of its importance to her), and go with it.
That's generally the best way to do it. You get a little more leverage once you know they want you there. However, I seriously doubt it was her salary request that lost her the offer.
