The C4 is far from my favorite Corvette, but that's a good example of what you're talking about. Although from my experience, a bigger radiator is never a bad idea if you're going beyond stock.

Even worse is the $500 or so "shadowline" markup you have to pay on a BMW to get rid of that crap. Audi does the same damn thing, only it's more expensive, I think.

Agreed. This may have ended very differently if she had negotiated over the phone or in person. Instead of the "list of requests", she could bring up a point (in order of its importance to her), and go with it.

That's generally the best way to do it. You get a little more leverage once you know they want you there. However, I seriously doubt it was her salary request that lost her the offer.
