Did we watch the same video? The truck driver did turn the wheel to the right to attempt to avoid catastrophe.

Who cares? Very clearly Tesla cared since they invented the story ...

What’s crazy to me is they could have claimed that the Cybertruck can do a 13s quarter mile while towing a car and that would still be extremely impressive. But it’s on-brand for them to cherry pick numbers and misrepresent what their products can actually do.

Did he think he was smart when completely ignoring the consequences of the two actions? If someone slows at a stop sign and rolls through when there’s no other traffic, there is zero difference made to anyone. If someone doesn’t stop bludgeoning you, they can kill you.

I’m a conservative which pass for “far-right” on any Gawker site. I don’t have a problem with this as long as everyone is being treated the same way.

Both men are insistent that they don’t need to answer questions from federal law enforcement, but boys, that just ain’t true

I see a lot of people forget that.  You might have the right to do (or not do) something.  You also get to suffer the consequences from that decision.

The driver appears to be content to answer the question and move on. As he’s getting cuffed, the look on his face seemed to me to say, “Damnit, Chuck, I told you it would end this way. But no, you had to prove a point, didn’t you? Maybe I’m adopted...”

I have absolutely zero sympathy for these idiots and I’m frankly amazed with how calm the officers were able to remain in that situation.

Though that wonder remains active.  I do like how Orange Shirt Guy seemed to get less and less enthused as his brother’s tirade went on and led them to arrest.

Ha, the part where he yells “you don’t need to disrespect me” after having already launched cluster f- and b-bombs directly at her is breathtaking.  Love to see someone get what they ask for.

As others have said this is a bad Jalopnik take. Cop did the right thing protecting pedestrians from a dangerous idiot. This is the definition of what cops are supposed to do in my opinion, protect the public.

The GIF leaves enough room to try to doubt the police’s actions, but click on the WSFA 12 link and see the full video, there you can see pedestrians with children among them were just a few feet behind the police car. The officer made 100% the right choice here.

I can’t fault the cop here either. He had an ATV at high rate of speed going directly in the path of pedestrians. On a road that doesn’t allow vehicles, including illegal ones (correct me if I’m wrong and CT allows them on public roads?). CT doesn’t require helmets but the mask earns him special points... And I do

The cop was 100% right, here. Was at a full-stop, and “blocking” a non-vehicular road. Only a dick would blame the cop for an asshole illegally plowing into his squad car, here.

Screw the rider, no sympathy for him. If it was a choice between bystanders getting injured or the rider, the cop had an easy choice to make.

Funny how the lead gif doesn’t show the pedestrians and strollers in that lane just a few seconds earlier. The cop did the right thing.

How the hell do you read that article INCLUDING THE LANGUAGE THAT YOU DIRECTLY QUOTED and come to the conclusion that the cop was in the wrong too?

If there were pedestrians on the path, the police officer was protecting their lives and did the right thing.  Protecting the lives of innocent bystanders is more important than caring for the wellbeing of a criminal.

Not if people don't use it
