Yes, that's what the pneumatic valve is for (there is just one, the second one next to the muffler is just a display piece to better show the mechanism). When it's closed, exhaust gases go through the muffler. When it's open, they bypass it.

No storage space at the front, correct. The front is full of carbon tub (which extends forwards of the front axle), suspension, steering rack, radiator, wiper mechanisms, ABS/ESC unit, HVAC. Afaik, all US-spec 4Cs, including the very first ones, should have been shipped with the additional air inlet. Whereas most Euro 4Cs don't have it, since it's a change that was made around 2-3 months ago.

It is on the coupé as well (look at the very first picture in the article). It isn't in the very first press shots and in the first Euro cars because it's been added afterwards. They found out that in extreme hot weather, after hard driving, the box could overheat, so they added that additional air inlet.

It is now. There is another ramp on the other side of the track, but it's been integrated into the shopping center. The west ramp is the only one that can still be used to drive to the track.
