The fact that it's an awful paper for a college kid to turn in isn't even the worst part about the scandal. The fact that it's plagiarized from a 3rd grade story entitled "Rosa Parks: My Story" is the true kicker.

People like "unc-cheat" are why college scandal reporting will never go away. Rival fanbases are starved for the schadenfreude that comes with seeing a school get caught. (Our inboxes have been flooded for months with people with NC State email addresses begging us to take down UNC.)

I'm curious what makes you assume this. Even the Ivies lower their admissions standards for certain athletes.

Full disclosure: I have a grad degree from UNC & know all too well the stories of grad students from many fields who have tutored athletes & taught them in lectures. This kid was lost well before he got to UNC. I'm torn because he probably shouldn't be in college, but it isn't right to stop educating him either because he obviously needs it.

I'm not going to celebrate mediocre actors for the sake of an agenda, but I do think—in general—that "ugly" people are better at telling compelling stories because we "normal" people find them more relatable. Think Paul Giamatti, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Tina Fey, Whoopi, etc.
