I like to think of issues like this from a purely business standpoint but this one doesn't make a lick of sense. What kind of capitalist says "Let's ignore 51% of the entire world's population for no reason whatsoever!"?
It always amazes me the complete and utter idiocy of executives, in any industry. You can make the world a better place and make shitloads of money. You can give girls and boys something to strive for, and make shitloads of money. But being an ignorant asshole, especially in the entertainment industry, only shoots…
Urgh. It's not just me that's noticed that toys are getting more and gender segregated? I had dolls, toy cars, legos, plasticine, stuffed animals, everything. I really loved my legos. I don't remember feeling compelled to get dolls.
I'm going to say that has to be it...
If you listed his picture for what I think you did (the Spelman thing), girllllllllllll
What's this? Britney brought up stereotypes when asked a loaded question about the one thing she likes about an enormous group of people?
"I feel like a lot of men are raised to believe that women are supposed to care for them and support them."
Speaking anecdotally, I feel like a lot of men are raised to believe that women are supposed to care for them and support them. Even today, I have known so many guys who really believe this.
They'll be demanding APA formatted academic sources, video proof, signed affidavits, lie detector tests and at least 3 white witnesses who can testify that this is indeed what he said.
there is so much awesome hilarity/well-written shade on this thread, i don't even know where to start. you made my day, ladies. carry on. :-)
Sounds like Taye was sharing his perfect teeth all along, so this doesn't change that much.
come on now. We're not being critical and examining the ways in which white supremacy and sexim intersected, how that has been internalized by members of our community and the familiar patterns of it in life and popular culture.
Yeah, I'm pretty blown away at this rant. I've been responsible for setting up electronics and building all Ikea style furniture since I was about 12. Although I have a feeling this angry comment is less about "turn-about being fair play" and more about "I have issues with women."
Well, I *would* take my own medicine, but I'm saving those Vicodin for New Year's Eve.
This will amaze you, but there are actually women who can fix their own car and their own computer. Also, my mother mows the lawn half the time. My father mows it the other half. When I get a lawn of my own (alas, apartment), it'll be on me. I can also hook up the new tv and work the remote. Who can't do that?!?
SPOILER ALERT
I actually do 90% of our home repairs (painting, drywall, wiring, etc.) because my mother owned rentals in a college town when I was a kid and my brother and I were free labor. I also mow the lawn when it needs to be mowed, take out the trash before it overflows, I know how to use all of the remotes in our house…
I'm of the opinion that the stay-at-home spouse should be responsible for the bulk of the cleaning (if they have young kids, all bets are off and cleaning needs to be divided). But if one is a housewife or househusband, they ought to be responsible for the majority of home maintenance.
My personal opinion.
