That is surprising and encouraging! Makes sense, now that I think about it. Stretching that same amount of work over a longer distance would certainly multiply the list of potential destinations from home. Plus, the ability to arrive un-sweaty to certain destinations would be great, such as the barber or a restaurant

If I had to deal with bumper-to-bumper traffic every day to and from work, I’d...well, I’d probably move or look for a new job. But, if that wasn’t an option I’d probably, reluctantly, get a car without a clutch pedal in it.

I feel like the clutch is in large part what makes driving a manual so fun and rewarding. I mean, rowing the lever is nice, but the real action, skill-building, and fun stuff happens in the footwell. That’s where you’re really controlling the application of power, where the finesse and feel comes in, the heel & toe

Foraging for pawpaws is definitely a thing here in southern Ohio. There’s even a local Cincinnati brewery that had a pawpaw ale (delicious!).

I always wondered why shepherds look like their back legs are too short.

Good question. I was guessing maybe extra hold-down support for the cargo rack or something. Limb lifters at least makes a bit of sense. I would hope the lugs adjacent to the hood will also be strong enough to strap the front of a kayak to.

Indeed, and there’s even a USB port in the center of the dash. Very clever.

Wow, interesting to learn there is a collectible market out there for vintage MTBs. I wonder what my mid ‘90s Garry Fisher would go for these days! I bought it new in college and have never let it go. Still a pleasure to ride and just never found enough reason to upgrade, despite the mediocre performance of the Rock

I don’t recall what I sat in as a baby, but as a tot in the mid ‘80s, I have fond memories riding around in this thing. It was more like a booster seat, but the lap belt secured it in place and closed. No LATCH system needed. I had plenty of freedom to look out the window or whatever.

Not related to the subject of the post, but is Alibaba or Changli going to send you a replacement fender flare for the one damaged in shipping (shown it title pic)? Or, is the flare part of the whole metal quarter panel stamping?

I get it, though I think it would have been even more appropriate/amusing to use the worst, dumbest-looking, knock-off of Calvin that you could find to complete the weirdness factor of this whole thing, and to match the oddness of the OEM decals and the sense that this whole contraption came from a parallel universe.

I’m sure he’d take it as a loaded question.

In my personal experience, the good ones are turning a blind eye. I posted up in the thread about losing a cop friend over this.

Hell, even if they feel justified (they weren’t) in disabling vehicles in a fashion that can’t be remedied on the spot they could have snipped/crushed the valve stems with bolt cutters (probably something found in most cruisers). Still requires a tow, but at least the tires aren’t ruined.

Just had a falling out with a lifelong friend over this last week. He’s cop in a metro area and at first we had good report: I messaged him wishing him safety and told him I would also be downtown protesting against systemic racism and the death of George Floyd. He messaged back with support and that Chauvin deserved

Having just jumped through several hoops over the phone to cancel my McAffee virus protection subscription, I concur!

What a delightful stroll this article has been, and great photos, too.

Yeah, most likely applauding the decision publicly while secretly subscribing to her account. “Doth protest too much” etc.

You might have gotten a bum unit or something. I have a unit (different brand but equally generic that I purchased through a similar deal), that sat in my truck for more than one month. I used it to jump a car a few days ago. It was at 100% battery when I turned it on and dropped to 75% (per the 4 LED indicators)
