Hated is a strong word, it's more that it was extremely disappointing and just not entertaining save for the story of Wan as well as a few other bits here and there (though none come to mind).

But boring? Hardly.

Sound like a good way of world building.

Strikes me as a property which could be made into a good mobile game, but given what happens to good properties that get made into mobile games as of late, perhaps a small PC title would be a better fit.
