Don’t give your great ideas out for free!

Does it really have enough cladding, though? They could make the entire bumper unpainted “cladding” like base model economy cars had back in the 90s.

2700lbs for the engine, 700lbs for the transmission per google.

I made the assumption that the diesel truck drivetrain was ~3000lbs. 35k empty truck - 3k diesel drivetrain = 32k lbs. Add 18k lbs for the battery = 50k lbs.

I was using the 12 superchargers as more of an illustration of what kind of energy needs to be pumped in at what rate to charge up a battery the size that an OTR truck would require. There will definitely be hurdles for both methods.  I’m excited for either one because my proximity to the interstate is closer than I’d

Speaking of back of the napkin calculations... a 75k lbs OTR truck (fully loaded, google says 35k lbs empty so that allows for 40k lbs of payload) would require approximately 1200kwhr battery to cover 300mi between charges. That is around 18,000lbs of battery in the truck. This means the empty truck is now probably in

And getting rid of OTR diesel would be a huge benefit, IMO. BEVs for commuters and local driving, fuel cell for OTR.

I always liked Suby-ota.

2007 GTI for me. Factory order, first new car, Candy White 4 door, huff 18" wheels, plaid interior, factory votex aero kit, rear torso airbags, 6MT. It was a beautiful car and drove so well. Then I noticed paint was chipping off the aero kit. Then an O2 sensor went. Then... then... then... then... I honestly can’t

Toyota wasn’t stockpiling all parts. They were stockpiling parts that they judged high risk of supply chain interruptions.

I’ve never gotten goosebumps from an SUV before (particularly a road going one)... but now I have.  I <3 racecar noises.

It suggests that they will be electrified... which could be anything on the spectrum of a mild hybrid to hybrid to PHEV to BEV to FCEV.  I stand by my point that the headline jumps to conclusions.

110hp 1.8L Subaru Impreza.  Thankfully, it was the late 90s and was a 5MT, so it was fine for the time.  My 2001 Impreza w/ the 2.5L felt like a rocket in comparison.

Nothing in the Toyota press release says that these are EVs.

Exactly. I’d be buying a car today if I were in that scenario. 1 year to live probably means 6 months of no driving as various systems in the body start failing. And giving up 2 of those waiting for a kei car convertible. F’s sake.

haha, love it.

I agree that CAFE has a lot to do with it. The CVT equipped Corolla hatchbacks are a solid 10% better in fuel efficiency than my 6MT version (both on the sticker and in the real world).

In my car, the upper bezel of the “tacked on tablet” is perfectly in line with the lower edge of the windscreen.  It is literally as close as possible to my field of view without obstructing my field of view.  It is significantly better to use than my other 2 cars that have the screens directly beside the steering

Exactly. He tells VW not to bring car to segment that is growing and immediately asks for car from segment that basically doesn’t exist anymore (and a performance version at that).

But he hasn’t driven this. It could be the GTI of sub-compact/compact crossovers.  A high torque turbo engine without a CVT is a great start to being that.
