I think an audio cue of Joel and Sarah screaming as Joel’s expression changes before charging the guy, instead of a full-on visual flashback, would have been less patronizing to the audience while still achieving the same effect of saying “this guy has trauma and this is why he scares people”.

The fact that they didn’t have a test with these exact variables is not surprising because when testing software you will NEVER have enough time to test everything.

I’m not buying Harry Potter, and I didn’t buy High on Life despite it being recommended by quite a few people.  Your move, bigot.

I feel like Soderbergh used her best in Haywire, she was still fairly wooden but he leaned into her impressive physicality more than her acting, and let the rest of the cast do the acting. 

This might get me to watch this, even though I’m not super fond of the animation style. Bosch was great in the original.

So with dramatic story material there suited for direct adaptation it would be surprising if the showrunners decided to ignore all that and make an action show.

The Last of Us is the best video game adaptation of all time. That shouldn’t be a surprise:
