One way I try to help with the sleep-while-traveling is by staying up most or all of the night before leaving. Basically I put the sleepy-tired time on the day before I leave and my travel day instead of during the trip.

Dear Netflix,
You’d better make this worth my money because that’s a whole lot of awesome that you’re ditching and therefore devaluing my monthly subscription. I’m not saying this is goodbye, but I am saying it will cause me to reconsider the worth of your service. It’s on you to make that consideration come out in…
I have never thought of it in that direction. I usually just knew based on the speed limit what gear I would drive in, I didn’t ever use the gear to determine what speed I would drive.
I grew up in the Church of Christ (in Washington) and am currently a preacher at a Church of Christ (in Oregon). You’re not wrong about the gross, fundamentalist, racist, homophobic, sexist crap that fills that denomination and others. I actively push back against anti-intellectualism, lack of questioning, and poor…
As painful as it was to have my dog on my lap as she breathed her last, I wouldn’t want it any other way. The process of being with her as she died and burying her in our yard (check your local codes for legality issues) was powerful and helpful in the grieving process. It hurts, but the only way past the hurt is…
Because no true Scotsman would be anything other than a raging alcoholic.
People tend to put in more effort and time when someone recognizes their expertise.
Only raging alcoholics and true Scotsmen ;)
Anything narrated by Sir David Attenborough will usually do the trick for me.
I have this theory that Macs are great for the people who think like Steve Jobs did, which encompasses about 10-20% of the population. They review the Mac or iOS device with statement like, “It just works!” and “It’s so intuitive!”
A couple of additions from my experience with this: 1) make sure the zip line is above head height so people don’t get a nasty surprise walking around at night. 2) A retractable leash will get fewer tangles.

I absolutely turn on the extrovert when it’s necessary. I mingle at parties, make small talk in business settings, I’m great at conducting interviews, and I love public speaking. But all of those draw down my energy so I’m careful to make sure that I have enough energy and/or enough time to recharge. I’m not usually…
Since I’m not in a region where it snows or ices often, I just use a pair of old socks that I slip over my boots to add some traction. It works well enough and saves from having to buy special boots that I’d only use once every 3-5 years.
I get the logic of this, but it doesn’t take into account the energy requirements. As a natural introvert it already costs me energy to go shopping, going to a thrift store costs more energy, and talking to strangers costs even more. I’m not saying that the proposition is out of the question, but I would have to…
I had to click on the link to this story after I had just checked my email first thing in the morning... well done!
I think you’re fixating on the medium of communication and missing the point of the article.
My work tends to fall into two main buckets: 1) push work and 2) pull work.
I’m with you. When we ever use the AC it’s set to 80 during the day and 75 at night. In the winter the heat is set at 65 and I’ll just put on a sweater if I’m cold.
Other than being delicious and unique among cheeses, halloumi has one added benefit. The Greek word starts with a chi (χ) which is pronounced like the ‘ch’ in Bach or the ‘h’ in hanukkah making it a fun word to say in addition to being a fun cheese to eat.
Oh, a grilled cheese with brie is amazing!
