That’s the real benefit of blowing away FMVSS. Here in SoCal, you see so many cars that have Mexican plates that are US market cars, presumably because they can buy an American-market car, and register it in Mexico. But low and behold, many Mexican market Renaults, Citroens, VWs, Toyotas, you name it, all have Mexican

Wishful thinking that this would eliminate the 25 year rule. The 25 year rule is just there as protectionist BS for American auto makers, and now the likes of Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Subaru, and others to protect their US markets from being watered down with grey market vehicles.

Yeah, the lack of low-slung long roof options has been annoying me for years. I’ve already told my wife that if we get stationed in Europe we are bringing home a Mazda6 Wagon with a 6 speed because it’s the best looking wagon on the market (IMO, obviously) that costs less than 80 grand.

No doubt. If you want to change consumption, then the only smart way to do it is to tax usage, not production. Mandating a vehicle be more efficient does not incentivize anyone to use it less, or choose only as much size and power as they actually NEED. Though ultimately it was the light truck exemptions to fuel

Which is why the US no longer has just 8 head lamps that cost $8-15 but instead now has hundreds that cost $100-2000.

The worst one is the probably the patchwork legislation between states but I’d put the second at civil asset forfeiture from normal traffic stops. The fact that you could be pulled over by an officer without cause, and have them take your money or even your car because “It may have been involved with illegal activity”

We all know it. CAFE Standards. Not because the concept is bad (more economical and powerful engines are a pluys), but it has never followed through and has basically killed off station wagons, hatchhacks and sedans.

Whatever law that allows DRL’s to be installed without automatic headlights. Probably the same one that allows cars to turn on their wipers without turning on the headlights with them, and allows red turn signals.

It is way too easy to get your driver’s license in this country. We need laws that requires more skills behind the wheel and actually keep checking our driving skills well into old age. Just one day of driving around Florida will demonstrate the need for better driver training for new and older drivers.

the fact that red turn signals are still allowed and the stupid US standards designed to be different, not better. And of course, the male-ass 25-year rule, but that would be moot if we signed on to the UNECE standards

No, it would become a fucking slide show.

When he started talking about how much he saves vs. gas, he stated that he saves enough there (versus his old Camry) that it’s more than his car payment each month,

It’ll be better than letting Raph do it though. Not sure all that bicycle knowledge will come in too handy

Or or how about this, the amount of times I’ve almost gotten hit because people somehow think that they can choose whichever lane to be in, in a multi lane left turn. Staying in your lane during a turn is not hard people.

It will be decades before AI can drive with the skill and adaptability of a competent human driver. The nuance and complexities are nearly endless, and constant high speed unpredictable changes make autonomous piloting of a commercial aircraft look easy by comparison.

I can’t wait for the think pieces from the same “green” media bashing the lithium industry in 20 years

Raph and facts never go together. Are you new here?

Ah yes, and with China controlling something like 85% of lithium production, batteries are SO much better! I’m sure they’ve got incredibly humane working conditions, very environmentally friendly techniques, and very fair pricing based upon their manufacturing history!

For the record, I accidentally wrote “Oil Fitler” in my initial draft, and I’m not sure why I changed it given how badly this filter wants to ruin lives.

Regarding how expensive everything is: California needs to stop being hypocritical on policy. If you champion affordable housing but only in places acceptable to affluent people (aka NIMBY), you don’t get any affordable housing that helps anything. This isn’t unique to CA, just the most extreme example(s), but it’s
