I can tell you right now, that modern cars are nowhere near as long term durable as comparable models from 15-20 years ago.  And that trend will only get worse with continued hybridization and advancement of driving aids.  (hopefully EVs can reverse that trend, but it’s an example.  Mobile phones being another one).

A good article summarizing the renewables’ material problems that have been obvious for years.

Car?

Should have used the asterisk for California.  You guys seem to embrace taxes.  Good thing those ridiculous thoughts mostly stay on the west side of the Sierras.

The grill and hood stripes look horrible. That’s reason alone to avoid this.

And this is why the robots will win.

No kidding they have all the parts. Anyone that would care has already figured this out, haha. Really I just want the 6sp manual available for the AWD hatchback model. I want a new DD hatchback with AWD and a manual (not named Subaru). I’m not asking much here...

Not happening in the US.

Don’t forget about all the wood pellets shipped from the US to the EU to be burned in converted coal plants. To the EU that’s “renewable”. To me that sounds like insanity.

It will probably never be a problem in America, because we won’t let that shit fly.  And even to those that think that CO2 is “evil”, the small amount of cars left actually burning gasoline would have an impact that rounds off to zero.

True cost of emissions? Yeah, how about the true environmental and human cost of producing all those batteries and electric motors. I’m sure the enslaved child labor forces of the Congo are happy about this.

I’m highly interested in Honda’s new RWD EV hatchback (assuming it comes to USA at some point).  Highly interested at a price of $20,000 and a range of 150+ miles.  If it’s more than $20,000, forget it.

In the future it wouldn’t surprise me if the prestige brands expand their factory support for restoration of existing and aging models.  The demand will be there, but unfortunately those of us in the middle class will probably be priced out from such things.

Lot of insensitive people on here today. It is tragic what happened with one fatality and 17(ish) people injured but I came to Jalopnik to find out about the car collection. Because I can find out about the rest of the carnage on the local news stations’ websites. I wanted details on the cars, thus here I am, on a car

Here I’ll do it.  The GT1's headlights look ridiculous, tacky, and appear to be an afterthought.

The materials used for the interior of the 996 are several rungs below what you find in other 911s, older or newer.

The 996 has never been a very good looking 911.  Better than most automobiles in general?  Sure.  But compared to it’s peers, no.  That it shares it’s entire front clip with the (now dirt cheap) Boxster makes it look like a very inexpensive car.  Add in a ridiculously cheap interior and that’s just not a good

I can’t recall ever hearing someone say something negative about the 964, other than most people preferring the 993 that followed it.

My point was that blizzards that impede travel “for weeks” don’t happen.  Hell I’m feeling generous.  They don’t even happen for one week, in these areas.

You’re just proving my point (BTW I live in NC).  Most of the snow was melting away within 24 hours of falling, if not less (where I live we got 5" and it all fell when the ambient temp was right at 32°).  Outside of the mtns, which isn’t applicable in this discussion, its not a lasting issue.
