18 turns?! Consider me intrigued. Back in 2011 I attended an HPDe at CMS and that oval + infield road course only had 12 turns. Hell of a fun time - super fast track (obviously), though all the walls were a bit intimidating.

For the absurd amount of money they’d charge for this, lol at using the dinky crude 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine. Hard pass, same as I’d do for the BMW i8.
This is on an automobile website why....?
You’re mistaken actually. It’s good news they’re NOT putting this into production. No shifting, no engine sounds screaming behind your head...what a bore.
Some people call it the golden age. I sure don’t. Never in the last 50 years has it been so difficult to buy a new affordable lightweight coupe RWD sports car. You can count on one hand the number of lightweight (lightweight being under 3000 lb) RWD sub $50k sports cars with a fixed roof - the BRZ/FRS.
I’ve heard repeatedly that it was done to free up space in the center console...which just seems to be taken up by cup holders in the newer cars. SMH.
Exactly. Can’t stand all these electronic parking/emergency brakes. Oh nevermind, it’s no longer an emergency brake when you design it like this.
Video won’t load. Regardless, that is BADASS
Yeah no, they sound like wet farts after going on a bender.
Most people I know (that enjoy racing) want to see the world’s best drivers piloting cars employing cutting edge and exotic technology in the quest for more speed. No where in that description does it say anything about employing cutting edge technology to save fuel. And most sports fans aren’t interested in…
Formula One historically has employed cutting edge technology for the sole purpose of GOING FASTER. Only since these green idiots have yanked control of the sanctioning body has the modus operandi been changed, much to the detriment of everything.
These engines sound just awful. Making them louder is a horrible idea.
“It’s still remembered as one of the fiercest front-drive vehicles ever cut lose on the road, and a lot of people want to claim it’s more hardcore and “pure” than today’s Civic Type R could ever be.”
This is America, not Europe where people welcome government overreach with open arms, or China where people have little to no say in how things are run. No politician would dream of banning ICE vehicles already owned by citizens. Eventually a ban on selling new ICE will no doubt happen, but banning vehicles/property…
The fuel light comes on in my Cayman when there’s around 4 gallons left. When that light comes on, the Miles to Empty display usually says 60 miles. I’ve gone 50 miles past the MTE display reading 0 miles.
I suspect that longevity would be fine. 306hp from 2.0 liters was cutting edge about 15 years ago. Today, not so much.
It’s a big mistake for them to not just drop in the CTR engine. 306hp in this larger vehicle would not be internal competition with the civic hatchback, but it would make for a fantastic vehicle. Possibly even great enough for me to overlook the crappy styling and not mind the removal of the manual emergency brake…
Bingo. Furthermore, it will be a cold day in hell when I trade my flat six powered 987 for a turbo 4 718.
I certainly wouldn’t trust a twincharged 2.0 liter 4 cylinder to be as durable or long lasting as an NA inline 6, the engine it replaced.
I’m quite happy they don’t. For $50k+ I want more than 4 cylinders.
