Not that there aren't alot of "3" games coming out, but it seems that more often than not, assuming a game series ends up suffering from massive set-backs or delays, there is an oddly high chance it will be on the 3rd game in a series.

Its ok, they're all self-contained story-wise, with only occasional minor references to other titles. You're not missing anything by starting with this one.
