A "best friend" to me is someone who is more than a regular friend or acquaintance. I am probably an outlier in that I tend to make friends for a school year or two and then lose all contact over the course of a summer and have to start over.

Actually, no. I had a standardized test on Tuesday, which made me miss three of my seven classes. I was out sick Wednesday and Thursday. And today, there was a school assembly which resulted in nothing much happening in two of my classes. Technically one day and two half-days.
