Man I HATED these cars. Always.

I’ve spent the last two weeks driving a BMW i3 with the range extender and going back to my internal combustion car this morning felt absolutely wrong. If I can enjoy a car like the i3 for daily driving and commuting, a car like this (and the Model S P90D) must be incredible.

Its about volts AND current. 800 volts at 10 Milliamp is only 8 watts...not much danger there. Of course this charger output is going to be in the hundred of amp category so yeah...that’ll kill ya. But I suspect you already knew that. 800 volts in a persons garage is scary to think about though.

The same could be said about gasoline.

So what you’re saying is, don’t test to see if it’s on the same way you would with a 9V battery.

It’s really more a compliment to Tesla than anything, as many of these same people who see Tesla as the one to beat were the ones deriding his vision and writing off his plans and a flash in the pan. I’m no Musk fan but If I was him I would be pretty happy to get a compliment such as this; Talk about validation.

I just don’t understand this kind of alarmist talk. It’s like people who thought our heads would fall off if a car ever went faster than 40 mph. Or that telephones would electrocute users because it was the first electrically powered device to be put into households. Same hysteria when Edison proposed AC electrical…

Voltage isn’t the danger, current is. Regardless of voltage, they should be able to have the charger do a “pre-check” to make sure it is actually plugged into a car and not, say, pressed against a person’s chest. Same way how generic phone chargers know how much current to send to a phone.

Fuck calling all of these “Tesla Killers.” I know it’s not your words so I’m not mad here, just frustrated by the manufacturers.
