Couldn’t they just make them a little harder to press?

Can someone explain to me the double-press thing?  Is that what the x2 means?  Why is this a thing?  Why can’t you just press it once to open stuff?

Firstly, using unpainted plastic bumper covers is ugly. There’s no getting around that. You’re right in that they will serve the purpose of acting as bumpers but they’re ugly and they’ve always been ugly.
