That’s not how conceptions work.

Er, I’m not sure why that went through twice. I tried to type. “Why are you concerned everyone agree OP is an asshole?”
Why are you so concerned everyone agree OP is an asshole?
But OP didn’t know she was a victim. OP thought OP knew the details of the case. People make mistakes all the time.
I agree that woman in the coffee case was a victim and deserved the money! I’m still here because people who haven’t heard the full story don’t deserve to be called assholes.
OP didn’t know this person was a victim. People highlight their ignorance all the time, doesn’t make them assholes. If people only spoke when they were 100% sure they knew the facts no one would say anything.
Just because someone isn’t as informed as you doesn’t make them an asshole. You have no idea where OP got information on a 20 year old case.
How were they supposed to know they had incomplete information? Especially considering the way the case was publicized, they probably thought they knew the details. Do you google everything to make sure you have your facts 100% correct before making any offhand comment?

People forget that everyone makes mistakes and has misconceptions.
OP didn’t know she was severely injured/a victim. It’s a common misconception.

What I don’t understand is why/how someone being misinformed turned into personal attacks against them. From what they knew, she was some dumb lady. Name calling was, uh. uncalled for. OP was being flippant and misinformed, calling them an asshole was really an unnecessary escalation.

Wait, is that me or you? I don’t get it.
There’s a difference between being misinformed and an asshole. Glad we cleared up which side you are on.
OP was wrong and misinformed, yes. But not an asshole. It’s an extremely common misconception that coffee-lady was a frivolous lawsuit. Somebody could have been like “Dude, you’re wrong. Looks at this link.” Instead of being like “Hey ASSHOLE, you’re WRONG!!! I’m so much more informed than you, ASSHOLE.” People love…
Wow. You really are an asshole. People have to work to make you a decent human being? :)
You can correct someone without being an asshole.
You’re the asshole for derailing a conversation about rape and compensation by harping on a common misconception in a condescending manner.
