Yes, that's more or less how I understand it.

Hating yourself and having extremely high self-esteem are not mutually exclusive. See: clinical narcissism.

I love Lundy's work! Do you have a link for more info about this phenomenon you mention? It's not mentioned in "Why Does He Do That?" or any of the articles/blog posts of his that I've read. Thanks!

Yeah, I opened it before I got to your warning. =/

FFS, can we refrain from this kind of offensive BS in an ostensibly feminist space?! Women don't go back to abusers because they "like the drama." And I'm not going to waste my time delivering a crash course on the subject - the info is out there for anyone who cares. Women effing DIE every day as a result of abuse,

I follow @FreePussyRiot on Twitter for daily updates.

I feel your pain. I have a lifelong case of PTSD, and zomg the stress. I'm perpetually either celibate or attracting abusive sociopaths. Good times!

Indeed! I'm sad they don't get more love on a website populated by progressive, feminist women. =/

Yay, Neutrogena face wipes. I love those things.

Do you mean Robert Hare, or is there a David Hare I should also be reading? :) And I can relate in terms of immediate reactions. When someone is doing something "evil" right in front of me, some part of my mind fights it and challenges the part of me that knows I'm witnessing evil. Once I've had a chance to step away

It's also awkward when you're the person who *is* able to see and accept that evil/sociopathy exists and is far more common than most people think. I've had far more than my fair share of exposure to it, and I eventually decided to study it informally. It never ceases to amaze me how far people will go to rationalize

I don't quite understand paying $200 to cut long, one-length hair. I can understand paying more for a shorter cut that involves a lot of shaping and tailoring to a person's face shape, styling preferences, etc., but aren't basic layers pretty straight-forward?

As an aside, thank you for posting this definition. I just got into a fight with what I thought was a trusted friend, and this is precisely what she was doing, but it didn't quite click in my mind until I read your comment. My attempts to explain that she had stomped all over my feelings were met with, essentially,

Hee!

omg, this whole thread is awesome, but your post had me in stitches! Thank you for that!!

Ahhhhh! One of my favorite Don Hertzfelt clips!! <3

Emily Bazelon skates awfully close to being a bully/abuser-apologist. As a former victim of both bullying and abuse, I'm put off by her need to minimize the damage that bullying causes. I think there's a legitimate case for analyzing what teens mean when they use the term "drama," but I think Bazelon goes too far.

^This.

GAAAH!!! I can't stand this guy, and I really wish he didn't have such a prominent platform on the left. I rarely watch him, but when I do, he inevitably says or does something that betrays his horrible attitude toward women. The last time I watched, he was such a sexist jerk toward Joan Walsh, I cringed, cussed at my

Yup.
