The problem I see here is that I think majority of people (those gamers, if you will) involved here don’t send death threats nor think that’s proper way to react, ever. Most people simply think Epic’s way to buy games for exclusivity is quite anti-consumer and disingenuous in their justification for doing it. Majority

I’m going to go with “Everyone sucks here.” These devs responded to some well reasoned criticism quite poorly, a bunch of assholes on the internet threw death threats at the devs, and then there’s the whole Epic Game Store exclusivity issue whereby Epic is using its reserves of cash to compete on exclusives rather

Most people who are talking about the post being snarky and condescending are also condemning the death threats, sexism, etc. You seem to be under the impression that this particular Venn diagram is nearly a circle when it’s quite the opposite. As always, there’s a vocal, violent minority that doesn’t actually care

This is kind of a bummer to read. Splinter and the (former) Gizmodo wants to be all about consumer rights and protecting workers.

Yeah they definitely did not do themselves any favor with the way they announced it. Honnestly I think a big part of the toxicity comes from that, and then there’s those that are toxic because they are human trash. Still none of that excuses the threats and toxic behavior that’s for sure.

They were being dicks about it when announced. A simple none condescending announcement would of been nice.

Oh look. Another Kotaku article that lists all the things they see as wrong with Valve/Steam yet glosses over anything wrong with Epic or the EGS. No mention at all about how Epic treats their employees as far as “crunch” goes since Fortnite got popular even though Kotaku loves pointing out that issue with every other

I dont want to pay money and give my information to an unproven unserviced 3rd party. Beyond that I dont want to support epic and pay money to epic. I should be free to choose where I want to buy something same way your free to choose where you shop for groceries it's a grossly simple concept.

A friend of mine on twitter had the (what I think is correct) take of: Ooblets going EGS exclusive isn’t a bad thing in isolation, but there is a real danger that the constant switch to EGS exclusive that indie devs are doing could hurt the goodwill that indie game crowdfunding has built up over time and prevent some

If people give you money, that absolutely entitles them to complain. And if you read the conversation threads (not all of them were faked or taken out of context), it’s pretty clear that these devs took a very hostile stance from the beginning.

The attacks are inappropriate. Terrorizing someone because of what storefront they choose for their game is both petty and callous.

Seriously. Harassment isn’t the answer but the initial announcement of the EGS exclusivity was soooo bad. So bad that just reading it, I knew they were about to get pummeled worse than the other EGS exclusives.

If you get harassed, that’s definitely the fault of the harasser.

These devs are bullshit though, and fueled a fuck ton of this through being total asses(at least the dude) on their discord. No reporting on how the dude just basically shit on anyone who disagreed with their decision civil or otherwise? Also being condescending as fuck in the initial announcement. Hopefully they’ll

If it were about convenience, I’d agree. But the reason I’m against the EGS is less about how it directly impacts me and more about how their business practices will shape the future of the industry.

No mention of this?

Their blog post came off as arrogant and tone-deaf just as their handling of the situation.

You’re really brushing off the level of snark in their announcement, and failing to mention how they addressed concerns about availability of their game in different countries with currencies not accepted by Epic’s storefront with a “you’re not entitled to our game” bitchy and not at all joking response (which sort of

Alternately, the new Star Wars game won’t make the obscene amount of money EA wants it to make - almost certainly more than any game is capable of making - and Respawn’s next game will be built in Frostbite, which will be excruciating for all involved, will underperform and in 4-5 years there will be yet another grim

Well that got pulled fast:
