That is an excellent point. There are times that over 75% of my salary has gone strait to childcare.

Decent daycare is VERY expensive! I payed over $1,000 a month in North Carolina 10 years ago. I am sure it costs at least that much in NYC currently.

In my mid-sized town, decent child care for an infant costs about $1,200 a month. If you have more than one child who would need daycare, you cannot afford to work unless you have a very high paying job or have family close by who will help (for free).

I can see your point that families affected by "classic" autism and the non-verbal end of the spectrum may have a different view.
