Do you know, as outrageous as some of the looks were in those days, it really was the best.

It was the 80s. We did all kinds of crazy things with our hair in those days. Crimping in particular was a thing.
Part of the joy of watching MTV in the 80s and early 90s was in dissecting (and sometimes mercilessly making fun of) music videos. For a period of time the videos themselves were almost as important as the music, and sometimes it really was appointment viewing (“Thriller” and “November Rain” come to mind). My cousins…
I will watch every single new version, including the British version that just came out recently and the terrible-looking modern take with Lea Thompson, even though I highly doubt that anything could surpass the 1994 version with Susan Surandon and Winona Ryder. The only real flaw in that version was that Jo March was…
Never said that.
Except that there apparently is data backing this up. I just don’t have it at my disposal. If men are generally not as good, I don’t chalk it up to lack of ability or to any generalization that women are smarter than men, but rather to the same forces that end up in women being underrepresented.
No argument there.
I knew I wasn’t pulling this out of my ass. I made a similar comment below, but expanded it to other fields as well.
Honestly, I have a feeling (without numbers at my disposal to back this up, so this is purely a hunch, although I vaguely remember seeing articles on this subject) that women are generally better doctors and lawyers. It’s because in general we’re careful, we are good listeners, we had to work harder to be taken…
It hasn’t recently taken root. It has always been here, unfortunately.
Yep. I remember flying overseas when I was a kid in the 80s. Way better than flying today, for a variety of reasons.
I had Belgium winning this game. Not that the Brazilians aren’t talented (although they are a bit overrated), but Belgium really is due. It goes without saying, but whoever wins the Belgium/France match likely takes the whole thing.
Suarez’s antics aside, I have always liked the physical way in which the Uruguayans have traditionally played. They marry physicality with finesse in their forwards, and I personally enjoy watching them more than I do certain other South American teams who play with a ton of finesse but spend half the time rolling all…
I would have. As TNFP noted, he’s been a good captain and leader for some time now. He may be a prima donna in his personal life, but he doesn’t sulk on the pitch, works with the teammates he has, and simply gets shit done, by contrast to Messi. I noticed this about him in the Euro Cup - he didn’t sulk over his team…
I’ve always wondered why. Off to do some googling.
She was perfectly fine with selfies as long as they kept her in the public consciousness. Now she’s over a phenomenon she helped create? It’s like all of a sudden she fancies herself too serious for that kind of thing. ::rolls eyes::
Are you talking about Asia Argento? Wow.
Yes, the author of the Vanity Fair article. Got left holding the bag.
I always got that sense, too - I think in part it had to do with being married to Jolie. He seemed to have gone through this phase where, like her, he wanted to be taken seriously. But then, he always seemed to take on the characteristics of whomever he was seeing at the time...
I can appreciate that he’s conventionally attractive (and sure, I thought he was beautiful in Legends of the Fall), but I am with you. Generally, I tend to go for men with darker hair, and I would take Last of the Mohicans-era Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale over Pitt any day of the week.
