Corvette owner here. The answer to you question is price and usage. Around me, a good, low mileage C5 is around 15k, while a good Z06 is in the 20-25k price range. If you want a track toy, the Z06 is clearly the way to go. For driving on the street, a Z06 is a more expensive, less comfortable machine that is not

It’s the concept of the traction circle. Your tyres only have a finite amount of grip. You can use any combination of acceleration, braking and turning, up to that limit. In this case, the guy was using up all that grip for braking, so he didn’t have any left over for steering. ABS or not.
