What else are you buying for less than $3k? 200k miles, it is either well sorted or an inch away from turning into a pile of parts. Even then, if those AMG wheels aren’t too beat up, you could part those out pretty easy.

I’m OK with paying for music streaming. Music streaming requires servers to deliver that content to your phone or whatever you are using to consume it. They’re expected to continually add content, whether you use it or not. I’ll never listen to the new Taylor Swift album, but I’m sure it is on Apple Music if I want…
It is just a cash grab. Make the original owner pay more. Make any subsequent owner pay more. Create recurring revenue over one-time revenue for each vehicle sold. It is great from a straight dollars and cents business perspective.
Are they advertising it? I know some dealers advertise that they’ll service “any” brand, but there are issues with software access for some right? And if you just need tires, I can’t imagine going to a dealership over other options.
It is a 2007, but is a E63 Estate. Local as well, although at some shady used car dealer, so bring your mechanic for a PPI.
Bro trucks and Escalades. Even in Upstate NY, those Escalade drivers thought 4WD/AWD means they could stop on a dime and corner like a Ferrari on a sheet of ice.
I know these have got enough hype to command big bucks, but there is still something wrong to me about a $90k classic car with rust bubbles on it. Although I guess it is probably easier to fix sheet metal than say a trashed interior.
My 3rd gen in “PWR” mode can go as fast as I ever need it to. Short merges are really the biggest issue with not having “speed” and it does fine there in PWR.
As a fellow Prius driver, it seems like the car just triggers the worst in certain people no matter what you are doing.
I’m with you. One of our cars routinely goes into the “middle of nowhere”, so we need a way to refuel it while there. EVs aren’t going to be there for a while.
Like taking the perfectly functional steering wheel and chopping the top off?
What are these going to cost? $120k? $150k after the dealers get their beak wet? I’m sure they’ll complain about the price of gas being anything over $2, but keeping this thing fed won’t exactly bankrupt the buyers.
I’ve searched somewhat recently and couldn’t find hardly any Golf Rs. The few I did see listed, had markups. I don’t know if the production schedule is just in a downswing or what.
Are these even that nice to “cruise” in? I mean you aren’t going to spend $20k on this so you can turn it into a mudder. Or maybe someone very wealthy might I guess.
You are right, these things are usually all about disclosure. They can require every customer to buy TruCoat, they just need to say it before they put it on the ticket for you to sign.
The interior on those was so bad. The cheapest feeling leather, hard plastics everywhere.
So $5k for a pile of parts for what will be your next project? Not nearly an interesting or valuable enough project to justify $5k.
If I’m getting a money pit Mercedes SL, I’m spending my $40k on a newer SL55 or SL63. I don’t dislike the R129 body style, I like it a lot, but those AMG cars are just much more capable and the convertible hard top is just plain nicer.
And a standup, although it is arguably tougher to get “rich” from standup alone.
I’m not saying people can’t work a car payment into their budget. That is a good thing overall.
