Sorry if the tone on that second comment sounded harsh. Rough week. I usually agree with your posts :)

oh, good point. I haven't read the book yet.

They don't think that because those people aren't trying to look Asian, black or Latina. So.

Fuller lips ARE common in some parts of Europe. I'm sorry but the exceptions prove the rule. Rich white people want to look like a combination of ideal features from different white ethnic groups. The tan trend came from the Mediterranean not because whites wanted to look black. Are there people widening their

Wow, ONE example of someone not wanting to look white.

hmmm, I don't know about this. Double eyelids are common in certain Asian countries like Thailand and Vietnam but not really East Asia. For someone to say that in Asian countries round eyes were considered beautiful before way before first contact is demonstrably untrue. When you look at sculptures of women from the

Agree. This thread is making me feel like an asshole for having sex with people I wasn't 100% sure that I was into. Sometimes, afterwards I figured out that I was actually as into them as they were into me. Sometimes I realized I wasn't feeling it. This is what I called dating.

Jezebel isn't a feminist website and Kate's reaction didn't necessarily have anything to do with feminism.

I wonder why he just couldn't be British in the film. British people do move to the States and keep their accents after all.

I haven't read the book but Joe Hill's other stuff is pretty solid. He's not quite the storyteller that his dad is, but he's a better at prose than King was when he started.

LOL! On the other hand, back in the day at least there was a wide variety of rap playing on the radio - you had party jams and conscious rap and gangsta rap, etc. But at some point (I blame P. Diddy) all mainstream, well-marketed rap became about bragging, money, clothes & hos. I don't mind the latter as long as there

tl;dr. I think this photo helps one woman, but not women.

This is probably the best point. I don't know how someone can argue that Nicki's lyrics or persona are on the whole 'empowering' in a non-contrarian way. Or, rather in a way that doesn't immediately derail into the "omg, respectability politics! omg slut-shaming" alarmism that postfeminism seems to rely on. I also

Mine either. My cousins would have gone after any guy who laid a finger on me regardless of what I did to his CAR.

I'll be over here starting the slow clap for you. Well, fucking, played.

The more you talk about grad school, the more it becomes clear that you don't know what is entailed. Many students work all through grad school as part of their fellowships (not always voluntary). As research and teaching assistants on top of whatever side gig they may have to support themselves.

Why are you all over this thread being a complete dick? You love it! Awesome, not everyone has to agree with you. That's how opinions work.

Gina Carano would have been great! Except for the acting parts.

Who has "the means" to go to grad school?! I, like most folks had insane amounts of student loans even after getting a merit scholarship. I come from a middle-class family with no assets and the rational choice would have been to get a job to help contribute to my extended family since they are lower middle-class to

"How old are you, out of curiosity? How many years have you worked?"
