actually, that's probably because unlike in the Musuem, the cars in the Vault collection aren't separated from visitors with barriers so you can get right up to them. likewise, a young child would probably find it hard not to fiddle with the cars...
well then, you can get pretty close to the cars for some nice pics.

i say about 1.5 - 2 hours, depending on how much lookin' and readin' you do. also, they offer a free self-guided tour feature where you call a phone number from your cell phone and the recording tells you about the cars and exhibits you're looking at as you walk along.
you are correct, sir... the museum allows cameras - i've taken my DSLR on every visit.
