It sounds like you're probably doing it wrong. An arcade stick should neither require large sweeping motions nor much use of the wrist. It too should only require movements that are a mater of millimeters and the movements should come from your arm, not from your wrist.

The quality of the design doesn't matter because you control a d-pad with your thumb and an arcade stick with your whole arm. Your arm is stronger and faster than your thumb and no gamepad will fix that.

Well this guy is talking about .3 to .5 second differences. For that level of precision you need an arcade stick. However comfortable one might be with a pad, they're not as fast no matter how well built they are.
