Yes, it’s a mod that gets loaded with the game from the memory card. Purely software that modifies how Melee processes a specific input from the controller.

One thing that needs to be discussed here is the fact that they were running two stream setups on stage side by side. This is quite rare so people aren’t exactly used to it.

For comparison, each FRAME of the original Toy Story movie took anywhere between 1 and 30 HOURS to render. Computer processing alone, it would take about a week for the computers to poop out 3 minutes worth of film.

It’s kinda sad how, because of one game, Nomura has this endless reputation for “extremely long development cycles and long delays”. Meanwhile, Nomura has shipped like 13 Kingdom Hearts games and only one of them experienced an actual delay in development.
