If you rent farm land, avoid corn growers if possible. Corn requires too many pesticides and too much fertilizer. No one else will want to rent from you until you get the land back in shape.

Obama made an observation, it’s not an opinion. Technology is replacing some jobs - ATMs, kiosks, self-checkout, online transactions - and that’s a structural issue with our economy because jobs aren’t as readily available. In the 80’s an office department needed a support staff of 20 to do what 5 people can do today…

There was some tea-party guy (can’t remember who) who felt that modern sewers and trash disposal had taken jobs from hero entrepreneur waste diggers. If the government hadn’t interfered, we could have those jobs today.

He’s more warden in that analogy. He gets kickbacks from the crooked governor in exchange for positive press while the prisoners suffer.

I felt just the opposite. He could have been trying to retrieve a Mission Impossible briefcase, because there never seemed to be any concern, rage, fear that made me feel he was rescuing a living person.

Wow. This is way over and above any offense meant. I have often shopped at thrift stores, and there is need at both ends - both by the employees who work at places like Goodwill, and the people who shop second-hand because they can’t afford to shop at regular stores.

I work in retail part time to get out, and the items are donated to thrift stores if they can’t find a better donation. It’s up to the store manager to decide.

And thrift does mean scrimping and saving - basically buying things as cheaply and wisely as possible.

I understand what you’re saying, but thrift is in the name - and it’s the assumption. If it was called a charity shop, people would expect to pay a little more for a good cause.
