In my eyes, nerd and geek are NOT synonymous. In my opinion, what you were explaining was a geek, i.e. very passionate about something. But, I think nerd is a more derogatory term.

I'm very excited for this game also. It reminds me of solar jetman a little. Like when your in the ship in solar jetman I always enjoyed how it controlled and it seems like ITSP is KIND OF the same way.

This is awesome Kirk is a great writer. I just read his Portal 2 review and it was awesome. And his Rhythm of play article was one of my favorite articles on Kotaku and it really made me think about what made great games great.

I think the biggest problem is that gaming has yet to hit that "cool factor." In other words in the eyes of the general public it's still uncool and nerdy to play video games...unless it's COD because you're "fuckin' mad bitches up" and every bodies doing it...and that's "cool."

Wouldn't it be cool (and I personally think this will happen) if your phone was your: phone, computer, media player/streamer, and gaming console all-in-one?

I actually agree. Just like the OP said, being able to sit back and just experience the visuals of a pre-rendered cut-scene is awesome, IMO. It's a nice treat after beating that tough boss or level.

I avoid all of that and go to my local video game store and if there's a particularly good pre-order offer, Amazon.
