Your comment is one of the most articulate around here. Most of the other commenters are only hurling insults and not doing any favors to the cause of anti-racism. Not everyone grew up in the United States and is familiar with the complicated race relations and there's something to be said to not generalizing the

I thought a black Scot would be hot so I google image searched.

Well for starters, there are black Scots. Plenty of them. I lived there and gave birth to three half-black ones. So a black man in a kilt could very well be from Morningside, Govan, Kilwinning or Melrose.

Without jumping to insults, I think at least one of the major reasons the situations you described differ from the one at hand is because of the power differential. Dressing up as a group of people who have been oppressed, marginalised, and disrespected for a very long time (and even today) comes across as essentially

I want to poop on a gold toilet. That's all.

Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful explanation.

I can't figure out why this comment bugs me. I'll try to extrapolate here, I guess.

39 years old my foot, first of all.

Nothing sexier than a man glaring at you from his gaudy yet unmade bed.

First of all, thank you for this response. It was really helpful and clarifying for me.

I do want to say that I was not at all defending the newspaper. I honestly didn't even read the original article; I came in and read Callie's article and I found it really confusing because of the way she was talking about the

Most people automatically understand that Callie is not criticizing ALL white women, that is a given. This is high discourse, we don't need disclaimers on every article. When you take a topic like this and put the focus on how it is not fair to white women, you become part of the problem. Being a good ally means

The author absolutely failed to neglect that braids have been worn - and been popular - for centuries, but now it's a big deal because white women are doing it. It's not appropriation, it's ignoring a huge freaking population and then deeming something universal because white ladies* are wearing them a lot now.

Nobody said appropriation but you. That is not the argument here.

Oh wait, I didn't realise you were also a raging misogynist. To quote your comment on another thread.

To be fair, I think YoungBlazer's chick is his right hand. So it's not surprising she weighs less than 130 pounds.

You miss my point. He fell in love with me when I was heavier. He looked past fat and saw a person. I feel sorry for you because you don't seem to comprehend that.

I like how you named personality last in your list of desirable qualities in a man. Probably because that's where you prioritize these things in yourself, which is why I'm guessing you're such a heinous douchebag.

So a quality man is in fact nothing like you?
