Electricity has EVERYTHING to do with my water, and I only live an hour outside of Manhattan. My water is drawn from a well in the backyard through an electric pump, so if I don't fill the tub or some buckets before a major outage, I can't flush my toilet (well I can once, MAYBE twice, but that's it).
