My initial thought with the helmet thing was to hide their numbers. People wouldn’t be able to figure out how many there were if they all looked the same.
Honestly, while the puppet designs were amazing, the puppeteering itself left a lot to be desired. I couldn’t watch more than 30 minute of the show because the voices and the mouth movements did not sync up at all and it drove me bonkers. Farscape did a much better job at this 20 years ago.
