You are totally correct, first picture has covers on. If you want even more proof, the second picture that is the front of the car shows this. How? look at the corner lights on the inside edge you see those two little black bars? That is the velcro for holding the covers on.

As everyone has stated this is an 86 or 87 and this is the SIDE badge, not the deck lid. Only the side badges have the intercooler part.
