I feel like Macklemore criticism used to be REALLY unpopular on this site. I'm glad more people are finding him problematic. I mean he's not like the worst guy ever, obviously, but I think he's a prime example of a "bad ally" and he and his staunch defenders are annoying as fuck.
I don't think real people have be inherently unlikeable. Real people have positive and negative characteristics. All of these girls are insufferable, egocentric, stupid human beings. That doesn't make them real, it makes them one-dimensional.
Sorry Greg, I love this piece but I have to side with Kayla on this particular issue. Were it me, I'd honour her request.
I was just discussing this over at Gawker. It's pretty much par for the course that new featured players get very little airtime. She was given quite a bit more than usual, probably due to her newsworthiness, and probably as a result of their two new black women writers. But it's her first show. There's lots of time…
Limited role? Most feature players are lucky to get in the background of a sketch or two a show their first season. She was up front in at least 4, and did totally fine. She didn't steal the show but she certainly held own - all you could really hope for and expect from her first show. I don't quite understand what…
Jez has been a bit ridiculous for awhile, they play off as something of a feminist site, however their posts do not hold true to that ideal. When I first started reading this blog it was very pro fem, however lately it seems to be an " I hate Miley and Gwen oh look at me" fuckfest. Which is sad, because there really…
You know, they should have started off with this article, as a warm-up.
Gawker Media is no better than a tabloid at this point, just with a higher opinion of themselves (and, apparently, a lower opinion of their readership).
This is how I feel. You articulated my thoughts! As I commented in the original post, if Jezebel had taken a different approach (like the one you suggested), it would have worked.
Here is the full quote.
On some level, though, I'm not completely sure why someone being anti-abortion is so terrible. I mean, yes, I'm pro choice and all, but GIVEN that someone genuinely believes from the bottom of his heart that an embryo is a person and extinguishing that embryo is murder, wouldn't it be wrong for that person to not…
Some of us don't have unrealistic expectations and thus don't need to be all snarky and jaded every time we're reminded that the Pope is, ya know, Catholic. Seriously, they're not going to be changing their core values anytime soon. But Francis doesn't have to become Gloria Allred for some of us to like him and think…
everyone would enjoy this show more if everyone stopped thinking it was about "four twentysomething girls trying to make it!!!!" and more about "four people with obvious mental problems."
"Men don't have to make meaningful man shows. They just get to make shows."
There's something powerful in the idea that women don't have to be powerful all the time—sometimes we can just make a sharply-written piece of entertainment that is enjoyable to watch.
Yes! There is smudginess going on all over where a unibrow would go.
