US isn’t leading the pack on trans rights, but we can proudly say we’re doing better than Japan at least in that regard. They’re culture sees nothing wrong with treating trans people like oddities or the butt of a joke like it’s 1989. There’s even a well worn transgender anime trope that’s always played for laughs.

Global attitudes towards intersex and trans people aren’t exactly stellar.  I’m not even sure Americans even acknowledge that intersex individuals even exist outside of greek myths.
