@ubikblack: If you want to format your external HDD to FAT32 or file allocation table 32, plug it into your PC, assuming you have one, go to My Computer, right click on said HDD and click format. There it should ask you if you want FAT16, FAT 32 or NTFS!

@Curse lily: Sounds like data corruption. It's most likely the HDD was processing data through said sectors on the platter at the time of power outtage, and therefore, ruined your 0s and 1s :(
