I don’t think speed kills as much as variance of speed. When you have some people going 65 in the number 1 and 2 lanes and the majority of the flow going ~80, problems occur.

Its not that speed kills, its speed variance that kills. Artificially lowered speed limits have been shown to actually increase the accident rate
