At least he's wearing a lovely gold shirt.

I am having a hard time typing right now because my hands are shaking with such Male Rage, but I will attempt my best effort.

She described her relationship with gaming as "complicated," credited the Wii for getting her back into gaming and showed a slide of Mario Kart Wii, World of Goo, Guitar Hero and Angry Birds. She said that she knew that some people didn't consider those "real" games but that she counted them as some of her favorites.

I really would like if that big ass armored character in Overwatch was a lady. More characters like this please.

She wants more diversity in the types of female characters, how do you not understand that. That means she wants more than just sexy ones. Not that she wants no sexy ones ever.

That's funny. Enough people are reading and commenting on it. Whether you admit it or not, gender equality is a social issue and it is prevalent in games as much as it is any other medium. Maybe even worse.

Man I wish they would just stop talking about bad things. Then they would all go away. That's how we solved world hunger.

Case in point.

Yes. Most of us do.

I read further, and she actually did kind of address this. I felt like her explanation was a little loaded, but seemed genuine. So wish granted I suppose :)

Was this sarcasm?
If not, I think you just proved my point...

All of these things are fair and rational requests to make. Can't see any reason anyone would have a problem with any of them.

How dare he report on an event relevant to this site's topic. HOW DARE HE?

That's how she set up her first request to game developers: "Avoid the Smurfette principle," a reference to both having just one female character in an ensemble cast and the character limitations that can spring from that. There are actually some other female characters among the 101 heroes of the Wonderful 101, but

Shorter version, if you just want the list of the list of what she says are "Eight things developers can do to make games less shitty for women", paraphrased from my notes... not that a lot of this pertain to action games and probably make more sense if you're thinking about first and third-person shooters, the Arkham

"THE WAY I HAVE MISREPRESENTED HER OPINIONS AND ARGUMENTS IS BAD, THEREFORE HER ARGUMENTS AND OPINIONS ARE ALSO BAD."

And right away, Lewis' Law is in full effect.
You stay classy, Kotaku commenters. You never fail to let me down.

ok, but can you seriously offer any explanation for this that doesn't basically fall into some level of objectifying? Like, it's far from a major offender or anything, it may even sound a little nit-picky, but it's an example how this subtle shit is everywhere in the stupidest places, and would take next to no effort

The fact that this has any stars at all is so deeply and profoundly concerning to me.

She said she'd written Gamergate off, that there was no convincing them. She wanted to reach "fence-sitters," people "who are like, 'I'm interested, and I don't know if I agree with you, and I'm curious.'"
