Maybe because that shit happens over and over and over again? I actually was one of those men who was asked by a colleague to propose an idea that she had proposed a week or two before and had been shot down. It was met with approval and delight. I felt two inches tall that a place I worked with was so blatantly

“Princeton was founded with a ‘whites-only’ culture and under this whites-only culture they created one of the world’s most successful alumni bodies. Now the diversity team will swoop in and want to steal the credit when the hard work and foundation has already been laid..”

Thats an odd take on the numbers... The Wii sold roughly 9 games per console sold, which roughly matches or beats the number of games sold per console for all their other non-handhelds. If what you are saying is accurate, then a core group of Wii owners bought *far* more games than they did for any other console to

In terms of tone, it should be noted that the lead designer is Alexis Kennedy, head writer of Fallen London and Sunless Sea fame. Very much looking forward to this!

I’ve been sucked into my favorite MMO again: A Tale from the Desert, which is a tiny combat-free MMO (current player count is ~800, I think?) devoted to increasingly complex crafting systems which are far superior to the standard ‘Do you have 2 of X and 1 of Y? Then you create 1 of Z’ that you see in a lot of other

*sigh* Nothing kills a joke like explaining it, but as you are giving these comics literally the minimal amount of thought and or benefit of the doubt, lets do it.

They’re considered somewhat controversial because its (obviously) a tactic used to get harsher sentences. That said... I like them too. This procession of 150 women is truly amazing to see.

Miss Val (the UCLA Gymnastics coach who didn’t grow up in the sport but ended up being the head coach after joining the team as a choreographer and is, if stories are to be believed about as diametrically opposite to the ‘scream at everyone’ school of thought as can be) has a blistering piece up on her blog in which

That’s very sensible... especially since in the time between when I posted that and now... I, uh... did 23andme, and was relieved to see that all I am is a carrier for (at least, among the variants they test) is a low-penetrance form of Celiac disease ;)

One day, when I have time, I’m going to finish my atlantis fortress. I’d like to see the goblins invade that! (Yes, I am aware that it will all end with me accidentally digging through the glass dome and... poof.

Well, the 47% isn’t surprising, as siblings are only on average 50% related (47% is well within the normal distribution of relatedness for siblings).

23 and me is no substitute for a real carrier screen from a doctor. 23andme is testing far fewer disease-causing loci and testing them at far lower densities than you’d see in a typical carrier screen.

Agreed. The PA ‘joke’ was basically ‘watch me be a gatekeeper to this thing I enjoy and cuss you out for enjoying something which you just discovered. Aren’t I awesome?’

You might also be interested in checking out A Tale in the Desert (http://www.atitd.com/) which is basically a massive civilization-building MMO where the entire community starts out with little more than the ability to put together brick racks and rip branches off of trees with their bare hands but through communal

I forgot all about this game! Thanks for reminding me :)

The same reason fewer women get CS degrees, go into math, etc. Just because you get hired doesn’t mean that the incessant drumbeat of ‘you’re a girl, you don’t actually belong in CS/Math/Science’ that culture at large and, often, within a specific workplace stops.

No, I saw that. But whether women are leaving the industry before or after being hired are both consequences of the same problem. Eliminating bias in hiring practices independent of other changes to a toxic culture at work and beyond won’t actually solve the attrition problem.

Conversely, imagine being a black female who loves Blizzard games and wants to grow up to work for Blizzard only to discover that there is a deep, pervasive culture that tells you that you don’t belong, that throws obstacles up in your way and which, day by day, slowly convinces you that you must have been wrong and

True, true. I just had to laugh that I spent a good chunk of time working on all of that only to post it and realize that it... really didn’t matter :)

I’ve played a *lot* of Total War and TW: Warhammer really threw me as well. Is it the Chaos invasions? Those nearly ruined me (stupid ‘allies’ deciding that I make a nice shield to hide behind) before I managed to turn things around.
