I actually liked seeing Lily before the society pressures turned her into what she is now. It'd have gone a long way towards explaining how she came to be who she is.

I wished they'd have given it a chance so that I could see how Lily got with Rufus and Serena/Eric's father.

Towards the end of Season 2 (I believe it was the prom episode), there was a backdoor pilot plot that portrayed Lily as a rich Valley Girl in 1983 (Brittany Snow played young Lily, while Krysten Ritter played Carol). No Doubt also performed the Adam Ant song Stand and Deliver (as Snowed Out).

This took place at a hair battle that Elgin's salon was competing in in the show, Beverly Hills Fabulous (formerly?) on VH1. This dance was the grand finale of their performance.

That's exactly why I loved it!
