Agreed on the aesthetics of the fat rockers but the Beetle has a flat floor pan so the only other way to use the same battery pack would be to stick it inside the cabin or boot.

Correct me if I’m wrong but there’s a ton of room in the boot post-electrification because the e-up! drivetrain has a front-engine orientation. Makes sense for the power port too.
